Actuator Noise

Postby Fahim » Tue 17. Dec 2013, 21:48

Guys,

Are u not sick with the actuator noise! :D

I put the games so loud and put surround balance to rear and still here the damn things.
I think it takes the artificial realism away from the experience.

Has someone come up with their own solution apart from head phones.

Any one like built a board with sound reflecting material? Does this work?

I saw somewhere on the internet, one guy had wrapped a soundproof sponge/foam around the actuators, he said it helped a lot.

Yeah, This is i have simxperiance covers for the actuators. And I was thinking of making a board on back of the head rest with sound material facing towards actuators to deflect the sound.

I can hear the sound like 10% so to reduce it to 5% would make a big difference for me.

Do you know something, you might be right!

I left the simulator dormant for about 6 months!
When I started using it again with a new game I noticed it is louder.

Does my actuator need greasing? If so what best grease is to use?

i don,t use scn5 actuators but wormgears.
i cant recomend a graese type you should ask a reseller.
i am a mechanic with over 25 years of experience, and with graese it,s mostly solved.
open them carefully and look if they are dry

This is what I am thinking of doing now:

I copy and paste below advice from yahoo answers:

"So, a good, inexpensive sound chamber would consist basically of two "boxes" (rooms), one inside the other with sound absorbing material in between. This includes walls, ceiling, and floor. This box would be isolated from the floor by sound absorbing material, so sound can't be conducted through the floor. The inner box would also be lined on the inside with a sound absorbing material like carpeting (with foam padding underneath). That's it.

Just a few additional, minor details remain. Make sure the sound booth is ventilated so you can breathe while you work. Also allow for ports to run your electrical and signal cabling through. These ports must be stuffed with soundproofing material like foam rubber. " Ronald Greene

This sounds like what you've suggested. Complete wrap of the actuators but would they able to breath :) i.e overheating?
