Dimension Engineering Position Control Module

Postby telfel » Sat 20. Apr 2013, 11:44

Hi

Came across this while searching the web for high current H bridge

Kangaroo x 2 Speed and Position controller that connect to the sabrethooth motor drives. $ 23.00 + $ 2.00 Int shipping.

Interesting point is autotune of pid, & for my use I can use the 2 x 60amp driver.

see attached

regards Terry

Same procedure than ever, send me that device (w.o. H-Bridge) and I write a plugin ...
Or someone else like to ...

I see Bobbuilt has beaten me to it, The Kagaroo is a new product and is not available yet in the UK.

you can purchase direct from DM site and international shipping price looks ok.

Regarding the message to Sir, I will supply a Kangaroo to Sir to write the plugin, I was just advising that I intent to purchase and supply for testing.

I previously asked for a plugin for the Black Jaguar which Sir agreed to write, unfortunately Ti stopped manufacturing, and passed onto Vex, they are now priced at $60.00, but the shipping charges are horrendous and pushed the cost to high.

I have contacted DM to see what the best prices i can get them for, If they comeback with good pricing I can order units for other members at cost price.

and before you ask, no I am not commercial just an enthusiast like you.

Hi BobBuilt

Is this comment directed at me, as I dont understand

Admire you for trying a 6dof of the bat mate its the hardest unit and once tronic finished our 6dof plugin you wont have to comprise your setup by using another competitors software, has me beat and very frustrated that it has occured here on site. We are xsim not a bbf site.

please explain

Hi BobBuilt

I only mentioned it in relation to Thanos AMC which had already been mentioned on the forum. so did not mean to offend anyone, but I see your point, prob should of posted in the competitors thread if at all. anyway

I believe Thanos is working on the 6 dof master software by Robin off the old forum.

I think once the software for 6 dof is sorted the mechanical build is straight forward. I'm going to start with a 2 dof using the 24volt motors, which I will then pass on to my neighbor. Then I will build a 6 dof. The build will not start until the autumn when I've finished my house build.

At the moment I'm researching / collecting Hardware, the main problem has been the high current H bridge at reasonable cost.

The kangaroo sabertooth combo should solve one of the problems, I look forward to reading your progress with the kagaroo, you have an advantage over the rest of us, as its native to your country.

This looks interesting but I don't think its autotune can be used on 6DOF platforms or actually on any platform. especially on those worm gearheads that you can't move the motors unless they are powered. A controller for 6 PID channels would make more sense. I guess the big thing with all these 2 channel controllers and peripherals is that they are meant to be used in robot mobile platforms (tracked or legged). Good try though!

I have seen the autotune library in the arduino PID library. I ask myself: can this really work?
http://playground.arduino.cc/Code/PIDAutotuneLibrary
Is it wise to let control a algorithm the way I like to accelerate? Such a algorithm seems to make sense for balancing PID like the segway.
As far I have looked into the code it is a special step by step instruction that must be done to teach the PID values. Far away from a autotune that is doing this in a motion platform action or with load. Correct me if I am wrong.
This for the arduino libraries, now to this device!
Can someone explain the way of this device autotune.

A summary from what I read in the manual:
You push the button once, then manually move the motors to their max positions, then push the button again and the "autotune" is doing tests for a while moving the motor forth-back until it finds a set of numbers that the motor is not overshooting or undershooting.

I don't see what's the big deal about autotune PID... the procedure it not that much auto tune... not to mention its hard, if not impossible, to perform in anything bigger that the tiny dc motors for robotic applications.
