HELP. SOMEBODY PLEASE - STEP by STEP solved with post #15886

I understand everybody is doing their own thing, but if somebody could just PLEASE explain what hardware is required to start a project...
There are so many threads and gets confusing as one tries to makes sense out of it.
1. Solutions to extract data from the pc
2. Boards - like Arduino - (one?) mega2.5?
3. Software to run them?
4. Motors, controllers, actuators etc
It must be already a working solution within this big/smart community.
I think the pulleys and other mechanical are individual solutions, but I find it impossible to get to a possible working scheme and I believe there are many like me out-there.
So please, just list some focal points for the rest of us.
