seppel´s 2dof project

Postby seppel » Mon 29. Apr 2013, 21:54

hi x sim,

after a lot of questions here in the forum i´ll start the documentation of my 2dof racesimproject.

4 years ago i started to build a raceing seat for our 24h race of le mans. before then we race the 24h race on the ps1 and i can´t even tell you how thrilling this was.
so that was the result:

1490

some modifications later

1495

this rig should act as a base for the 2dof racingrig
so after a long planning phase the first result you can see below:

1491

1492

1493

for the groundframe i use 40*40 aloprofile conected with brakets from teh diy-market. for pivot i use a rubber buffer with 65 shore.
i mount the underseatframe and must now find the right balance point.
next steps will be recorded

best regards
seppel

It's looking good already, what electronics and motors you plan to use?

Hello Seppel,

Thanks sharing it. Rubber buffer solution looks interesting. Can you please explain it? Do I imagine right, that it compress and goes back to original size as long as the seat moves?

i already got some scn5 actuaturs. atm i wait for the ordered power and data plugs for the scn5. i found the data plug here: http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/7497 ... AREA_86406? and the power plug here: http://de.mouser.com/Search/ProductDeta ... 4DES-2.5RC the prob in this case is to found a crimptool, fortunately a buddy got some.
for the conection to the pc i got two devantec usb converters.
i plan to mount the scn5 behind the seat like the common style, but i found some vid in the tube, were the scn5 are monted in a horizontal way.

in this case i´m not sure atm, maybe someone know some adv. or disadv. for this system

yes wptm you´re right. the rubber compress but in a minimum way as higher the shore deg is.
here is the rubberbuffer http://www.reiff-tpshop.de/shop/de/schw ... ung-b.html

i also try this http://www.reiff-tpshop.de/shop/de/schw ... etall.html
i got the tip with the buffer from yokoyoko, he favour this way.

the main prob i think is the gap between the seatframe and the profile wich is the buffer mounted on. this gap is not high enough, so if the seatframe move left or right it touches the profile. maybe i must expand the gap.

thx bob for your tips.
i already got the stabilizer rods. i just looking for a balance point and after this shitwork is done, i´ll cut the rods.
i read your reply close and decide to cancel the horizontal-project.
i got some 100mm scn5er and i plan to put the angle of the actu´s (look form behind) at approx. 50° and the angle (look from the side) to the pivot at 60°.
i hope this angles are ok cause i have to move (me 110kg ,frame and seat with 25kg) approx 140kg.
but first i put my focus on the dammed balance point.
best regards
seppel

i think there is a big mistake in my contruction:
the space between seatframe and mainframe (were the pivot is fixed) is only 40mm (pivotheight) but i think it must be 80mm for more space to left and right movement. is this proper???

hi folks,

after few weeks of stop working on the sim this weekend i manage the next steps. balance point is set for now (thx bob for the good clue with the pipe!!)
stabilizer rods are fixed, pedals and place for the wheel is save.
i´m not happy with the square for the stabilizer rods so next week i´ll build a new one.
i also rebuild the underseatframe. i throw away the original frame from the seat and save 10kg weight.
1676
1675
1674
1673

so next steps: build the rear stabilizer/ dampener bar and the mounting profiles for scn5er.

so long
best regards

hi x sim

i canceled the rubberpivot-project. while fine adjusting the seat, the rubber pivot overflex a few times and got a cut in the middel. damm it!!
i talk to a friend who pimp an old farmtractor and he gave me an kardan. after a littel work i build two plates and weld the kardanshaft on them.
here the result:
1688

with the restricted movement of the kardan i don´t need the stabilizer rods anymore and balacne point adjustment is easier.

next step is the actuator arms. for now i´ll need some tips for my desgin.
i use a m10 threaded rod wich is connected to the profile. the scn5s are attached to this profile (not fixed yet)
can this desgin handel the forces of the actuators?
here are some pics

hi folks,

after a longe time i continue the work on my sim.

here some pics of the work in the last days:

1938

1939

i mark the clearances between the main parts. i read about some minimum dimensions and try to keep my clearances over the minimum dimensions.
the whole rig is only preinstalled for testpurpose atm so do not wonder aboute the messy ;)

yesterday i do the fist testrun with the soft- and hardware on a rfactor testtrack and finally with me in the seat! everything feels pretty jittery and i think i must stabilize the under rearbar for moving back- and forwards. 1942
i also must finetune the softwarevalues.
here are some more pics:
1941 balljoint upper bar
1944 balljoint lower bar
1940 buildup of the lower bar with 3 rubber buffers
1945 csp without clutch
1943 cabelmess
