Our First simulator project

Postby Marcossouza » Fri 28. Sep 2012, 23:41

Hi everybody,

My friends and I are developing a motion simulator of 2DOF.

To do that, we are using the following mechanical structure:

The motion will be done for 2 wiper motors from VW Fox.

The motors will be controled by an H Bridge that we've built with Power Mosfets IRF3205.
See below the schematic.

Half of the H Bridge mounted

To send a signal to the h bridge, we'll use a microcontroller 16F877A.

Now, we're starting to work with X-sim software and it's where we think we'll have a considerable difficulty.
So, that's all of we've already done so far.

If you have some doubts or advices, don't hesitate to post, because it will able to improve our project.

With best regards,

Marcos, Paulo and Fábio.

Hi there, nice job there. I reminds me of an old rock and ride set up.
Ok, with controller and h-bridge, may I suggest the Pololu JRK 12v12 http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1393 , one each per motor. Controller and h-bridge in one.
Easy to setup, 7 wires, one usb cable and it will handle 14v at 30 amps continuous with heat sink and fan cooling.

As for x-sim software, not sure what difficulties you are expecting. If its programming your controller and h-bridge to x-sim, send an email to sirnoname .

Here are a few instructional videos I have done, there is also documentation as well here on the site

any other questions, just holler.

Good looking project!

But won't there be a fears amount of load on the rear pivot point. Should be some sturdy construction.

Hello Motiondave,

Thank you for the advices that you sent for us.

About h-bridge, unfortunately we're doing a university work and we had to develop it from our own way.

About X-sim, we're just starting to work with that, so we're finding out a new world, but it doesn't really seem so hard.

Any other question or advices, feel free to send.

Hi floriske,

That was a fear that we've had, but through analysis on the software named Catia V5 from Dasoul Systems, we get a service factor = 2 to 100kg of weight.

We've seen your project, and it really looks be very good.

Thank you for your post.

Hi Marcossouza,

try to get as close as you can get and ask the parts you do not understand.
In the future there will be some improovements that you now are missing but you learn alot ;)

I noticed the frame is like an old rock and ride frame.
Good idea and thanks for sharing the diagrams.
I am looking at making one similar to this next as a flight sim.

The construction looks pretty massive for wipers, would they handle it?
