2DOF "motionkart" with Arduino/MonsterMoto

Postby wpjartsa » Tue 13. Jan 2015, 17:43

Just "going on" a dream of building up a 2DOF-system around an old karting-chassis :D

Going to follow Racingmat's fine tutorial, we'll see what happens when a total newbeginner with these kind of things starts building.....
At this point still waiting for the MonsterMoto-shield, should be on my hands in a few days. Allready got all the rest parts, done some software downloading etc so we could say the project has been started.

Planning to load some posts and pictures here too when the project goes further...

It's more than likely that I will need to ask some stupid questions here soon or later, so sorry 'bout that

Making dream alive is very rewarding! Good luck!

I'm eager to see pictures of your growing sim :)
Mat
PS : Thanks for the compliment about the 2DOF tutorial

Step by step it goes on...

After some harms and a few problems : First hardware tests & trials and first serial tests without Xsim done....and YES, first movements seen :D
Wo-hou, looks like this may even work !
Next step to do some hardware mountings and xsim setups...
Right now wondering about that how does it work if the rods from motors are short or long or....and how far from the "middlepoint" should the motors be mounted to the frame.... *rolling my eyes*

Really GREAT place this forum, respect to all You guys who are writing here and sharing your knowledgement and ideas :!:

My version of connector between motor-axel and pot

nice find! what is the original purpose of these pieces?

the length can be approximatively 50 cm from pivot

and 28cm from pivot

Thanks Mat a lot of these pictures and measurements, that was just what I ment :D

Still thinking bout how critical is it if the rods from motors to "chair" are long or short....have seen that it's very popular construction to make it so that the rods goes up somewhere to the highness of drivers shoulders...but why is this ? Why not just short rods assembled somewhere to the basic frame ? Maybe a silly question, but still wondering bout it :?

Those connectors of mine, they are simply threatened rod connectors/extensions....I drilled the smooth hole of motor-axel straight to fit 6 mm threaded rod or a 6 mm bolt....if use rod, it fits straight to motor and from the other end to this connector. I used a bolt without threads on the other end, cutted it....just drilled the connector inside out of it's threads and to fit 6 mm axels from both sides, then made the sideholes for fastening screws, only there is not so much material on the sides of this connector but it's however possible this way ;) These connectors are almost free, and this way it's DIY.....

with higher mounting point, it's kind of pendular system: more stability I presume... but I'm not really convinced ;)
under foot rods are OK as well!

the important length is the orthogonal distance of the pivot from the rod

Thanks again for your attention :D

What do experts say about this plan ? Using an existing karting chassis as a frame. How would it work with the placements ( of rods ) like this ? 3568

Proto looking like this at the moment. Don't know if the construction has or not any chances to ever work nicely, but wanted to try...

Right now have some mysterious problems with the serial test-step...does not make the moves as wanted...must check the wires again....
