Hi Floriske

How are your new motors performing? Any problems, what voltage are you running at and what current are they consuming.

ah, okay, that makes sense. Thanks. Outside its casing it looked like it was doing something more mission-critical.

The part you circled is the power adapter for the usb hub. I removed the housing (just like I did with the hub itself) so it first the general looks better.

They are performing a lot better than the wiper motors! At this moment they are running at 30A but I think I can improve their performance even more by adding a few amps to that.

The only minor downside is that they do not hold their position once the power is taken off, the wipers did do this but this has to do with the gearbox ratio I reckon.

Hi Floris. As they don't hold their position do the levers drop to the bottom position i.e. the rig settles at its lowest position ? This would be ideal for me as the cockpit needs to be at its lowest position for ease of getting and out.

Thanks

that's what it does exactly.

I doubt if 4 motors will be able to lift your construction without any spring support though.

My foot motor sim is that same when motors are off. I just have to lean forward, in my case, on the frame before getting off and turning off power.

4 motors might do it, but yes with a spring to help.

I'm planning on making up two boards slightly similar to Floriske's setup. One board will be on the floor and have the four motor units bolted to it the other will sit on top and have the four actuator arms attached. I can then just fix the cockpit to the upper board. If I ever change the rig at any time then I shouldn't need to change the motion platform.

I'll try it like this and if I need to add spring assistance then I can simply add these between the base and the platform. I'm also thinking of replacing the triple monitor stand as my current one is steel. Replacing this with an Aluminium version will reduce the weight. The centre monitor is close to the T500 steering wheel housing and a few millimetres off the top of the cockpit so these will have to move with the cockpit. The 24" monitors are fairly light at 4 kg each so that helps.

What I mean by a spring is something like the Aldoz setup on another forum. Mind you, its a bit big.
I thought maybe a motor cycle spring / strut setup. Small.
Or even a pocket bike spring / strut.
These are sometimes adjustable, so you dont have to calculate an exact tension/compression spring.
But a proper spring would help. Start with one and work up from there.
Usually by spreading out the load over a wide area, it helps the motors lift.
The vesaro sim does this, but it is a big ish floor area.

Just to get back on topic ;):

Shot another video last night. Still messing with the profile, but it's getting there ;) just struggling with the vertical force a bit, the road bumps are quite soft whilst driving through the grass is way too harsh.

the squeeky noise is the left potmeter arm which is a bit too tight and thus needs some sanding

use collision effect for vertical, bumps, that way you can work on small ish bumps, but its not to nasty when you go off track...

and take the springs off, motors that big dont need them...
