Some updates to my project:

- I Finished building the mechanical units (flap movers and belt tensioners) for all of the four flaps of the seat.
- Installed a bass shaker for simulating vibrations from the engine
- configured the x-sim converter to send x,y and z acceleration values (as well as engine rpm) to the arduinos

Made some very satisfactory test flights with already impressive effects! More updates soon!

Hi Bergison,

Really good made. The idea with the pulley to combinate the back flaps and the belt is very clever.I didn't understand with your first sketch how you will make it but now really great done.

Sirnoname is looking for beta tester for new bass shaker plugin. If you are interested please send him a pm . ;)

Hello Bergison!

I hope you enjoy your DIY Gseat! Did you make some changes or improvments since February?

Could you be so kind to make and share a video?
;)
I'm on the verge to start mine (as I sold my 2DOF):could you give some advices?
What you would do differently if you would do another one?
Thanks
Mat

Hi Mat!

I had quite a busy time (work and kids) since my last post, but I managed to finish the G-seat in between. I glued acoustic foam on the inside to minimize the sound of the four motors and also installed fans for the h-bridges (although I don't think they really need them because they merely get a bit warm). I finally covered the seat with black faux fur and repainted the outside.

There is still some fine tuning to improve in the converters settings, but everything works just fine already! I was positively surprised at how realistic and intense the experience is, I really didn't expect it to bee so good! Especially "pulling Gs", where all four flaps move together to simulate positive Gs is great fun! I am also very happy that I did include the seat belts (they tension under negative Gs or when decelerating). When flying upside down it really feels like hanging in the seat!

I also added the G-seat to my simpit website: http://meintourenbuch.net/simpit/g-seat (There you find some additional pictures of it).

The only thing I do regret, is that I was so eager to try it out when fully finished, that I forgot to make a video of the flaps in motion before I put the cushion and the coating on the seat. Now there is not much to see from the outside. Maybe, if I have more time on my hands some day, I'm going to strip them off again to make a good video.

Are you planning to build a similar G-seat like mine? I'd be more than happy to help you out! Just let me know, which part or detail I should explain here.

Hi!

Your blog is nice as well! 8-) and I appreciate your personnal thanks!
Yes, I'll start a G-seat: I would like to have a more compact sim and less jerky (my skeleton is not keen of that) and capable of sustained Gforces.

- right now, I'm wondering if I will use a racing fiber seat that I would hack or a diy seat in wood or metal...

- Can you explain why did you use 2 arduinos? as only 1 arduino can drive the 4 motors together. You wished to have a better refresh rate?

Hi everybody!

Well, I did it. As requested, I removed the seat cover again, and made a short video of the seat in action:

Enjoy ;) !

Hi Bergison,

Many thanks for this video !

Awesome job and seems to be very realistic for g-forces feeling ! ;)

Many thanks for sharing your ideas !

Congratulations - Five stars !
