Unable to make Extractor to run/load

Postby notSecond » Thu 6. Jun 2013, 02:00

Hi,

Last week I uninstalled a perfectly good running X-Sim2 to install X-Sim3 and after many hours of searching and trying every evening I feel I am in a very frustrating dead end. I now regret X-Sim2.

I have 2 PCs, one with Win7/64 used with my first simulator and one with Win8/64 for the second generation sim. I am waiting for some pieces to really test the gen2 sim but in preparation I decided to give X-Sim3 a try. Win8 PC does not have games yet but Extractor will execute as admin only (not sure it is supposed to be this way) setup is not completed on this PC.

The real problem is with the other PC. Extractor loaded first time only, the window was visible. Now it does not load; I can see it in the Process tab of the Task Manager (but not in Application tab) at about 4500Kb, no icon is visible and alt-tab will not show it.

I downloaded and installed Dependency Walker and opened Extractor with it. It told me 1 file (dll) was missing. I did a search for that file and copy it in X-Sim3 directory and re-opened Extractor. Now 6 files were missing. I did the same and then 13 files were missing. In the end about 30 files were missing DW said. Surprisingly with Win8 PC Dependency Walker also shows that 1 file is missing but it runs anyway !!!

This is the log from Win8 PC :
Error: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in an implicitly dependent module.
Warning: At least one delay-load dependency module was not found.
Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module.

The log from Win7 PC is :
Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module.

When trying to find the error I found many messages about dll from windows\system32

My questions are :
Is X-Sim2 still available somewhere ?
I would re-install it on this computer and forget about X-Sim3

If not, can someone give clues on what to check/change/do to make this sw run ?

Thanks

Hi,

you do not need any additional DLL file. X-Sim do always work without frameworks.
You can watch the traning video in the tutorial section, there is a instruction for Win8/64bit.
If you press the extractor "Tray" icon you will not see any tab bar or window, you must use a rightclick on the notification icon in the taskbar to get it again.
If all goes wrong: use the X-Sim registry cleaner in the other stuff directory to get to default and reboot the pc or kill the process.

Thanks for your answer Mr NoName

This morning I installed X-Sim3 to my laptop running W7/64 and it does run OK without any of the files that DW says are missing.
As we can see, it is fully loaded at 106380K and the icon is showing.

My new W8/64 PC purchased specially for my new sim is OK too at 95.8M

But on my older W7/64 PC X-Sim does not load as we can see at 4356K and no icon

When dbl-clicking to start the extractor, the app loading icon is showing but the spinner is not on this PC.

Is it possible that the registry does not clean properly ? I used RegistryCleaner.exe many times, reboot then disabled most services and all apps not required and reboot again and I still have the same situation. I never have a message that it stops. It just 'seems' to be loaded.

Thanks

Hi,

the registry will normally not break a startup. No worries here. There is only the internet scan on startup (ping, login etc. with ports 80, 0 and mysql).
In your case the startup ends in a deadloop.
This maybe a firewall that block the application access until there is a user OK?
You can try to delete all files from "plugin" folder.
A double execution will be blocked generally, so you must kill this zombie process by the taskmanager.

Is there a running load symbol (circle) after you start the extractor and do it end?

Hi,

There is no running symbol, everything looks like it is normally loaded and I guess you mean sqlite3.

I deleted everything from 'plugin folder' (after I did a backup) and disabled the firewall (local and public) but it is not different and I allways kill the process before re-trying.

Does the fact that it ran the first time gives you a clue ?

Thanks

I just made sure LogMeIn was disabled but the result is still the same. Could Eyefinity be conflicting ?

If you run the extractor: is there realy no circle in the middle for the startup?
You know how it looks like because of the other windows.

Perhaps the language folder with special characters? (should not be a problem)

I know, the software runs with XP as with 7 or 8 ;)

Try: Start extractor - wait - press ALT-Space then M for move and enter. The position data of the windows are not stored in the cleared registry area.

Hi,

This spinner (captured from my laptop, also on my W8 PC) never shows on my W7 PC

ALT-Space does not show any menu and pressing Enter (to restaure, first item) will only start a second Extractor.exe *32 process.

Yes, I know it runs on W7 and W8, I can execute on my laptop and the other PC.

I am sure you have a debug configuration, but could there be a startup file (like Linux boot file) available with a command line arg ? I am sure the problem is not with X-Sim but with my PC and a startup file would help find what is not working.

I must admit I did not read instructions before trying upgrading 2 to 3. Some apps will tell to uninstall prior version first before upgrading specially if installing in the same directory. Could newer version have a different default directory like X-Sim 3 or X-Sim 4 ? (Just suggesting)

So the order of what I did :
Download v3.0.1.5 (later 3.0.1.7)
Install in X-Sim (thinking I would get a message or that it would upgrade the files there)
Run X-Sim 3 Extractor
Tried to load a profile from v2 (some app update prior version of their files and of course it did not work)

Then I thought it was not the way it should be done
So I closed Extractor, uninstalled v2 and v3, re-installed v3 and tried to run it.
One note : when unstalling v2 I got the message that one file was not needed anymore and was asked if I want to keep it or not. As usual I always delete unnecessary files as much as possible (I do not remember I had a problem that way but since 1988 until now I may forget some). I also checked to do the same with all unneeded files. Unfortunately I do not know which ones. Maybe this is where I messed up ?

I though about restauring the system but I made some change since then and with only 1% space reserved for this, the restaure point is not available.

I am sorry to cause you headache and I really thank you for your support so far

Regards
Fern

There is less code before this animation.
It is a check of the windows version, the WMI Version and if you use a combatibility mode (Not the admin flag but the XP SP3 etc.).
The debug is not available in this early stage.

Hi,

I connected my old HD to my PC. X-Sim v2.1 was still on it. I executed it from the old disk and it ran perfectly. I uninstalled v3.0.1.7 and simply copied X-Sim folder from old disk to PC disk then unzipped my profiles. I have a good running X-Sim v2.1 just like it was 2 weeks ago. I will just forget v3 for this computer.

Thanks
