Interfaces which use a USB to RS232 converter may work slower or may have connection problems if you do not change the settings of the driver. There are many USB to RS232 converter on the market. Some use new drivers to solve the settings with new timings. FTDI converters have their own driver dialog where you can change the timing of the adapters. In case of FTDI converter you should setup the lowest latency and the printer port option.
